Welcome to Victoria Woodards for Tacoma City Council
Thank you for electing Victoria Woodards as your new Tacoma City Council-at-Large member! We appreciate all the hard work and support everyone did for us during the campaign. Thank you again!
Dear Friends,
Hi, I'm Victoria Woodards and I'm a candidate for Tacoma City Council Position #6. Tacoma is a city that needs strong leaders who have experience in public office and community service. I am that leader.
I've been a member of this community since the age of three, and I chose to run for this At-large position because during my lifetime I've lived in every part of this city; the North End, South End, Eastside, Hilltop and Northeast Tacoma. I Identify with all neighborhoods.
I am a proud graduate of Lincoln High School and my entire life has been about service. It began when I joined the U.S. Army immediately after high school. Since then, I've had the opportunity to serve in a wide range of positions, including an appointment by the Governor to chair the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs. Some of my current positions include: Trustee, Washington State Historical Society; Senior Fellow, American Leadership Forum; and Member, Rotary 8. I am the lead producer of Ethnic Fest and a choir Director at Allen A.M.E. Church.
However, I am most proud of your 2005 decision to elect me to the Metro Parks Board, where I serve as President. During my tenure, I am proud of the work we've done to enhance the quality of life in Tacoma through the passage of our bond for capital improvements.
I have seen Tacoma grow into the amazing community it is today, but I also know we're not done yet! With the right leadership and continued collaboration, Tacoma can become an even better place to live work and raise our families. To get us there we need committed public servants who know Tacoma and its people. While out listening to citizens, I hear concerns about economic development and job creation, affordable housing, the environment and sustainability, roads and sidewalks, transportation, and government spending. When I am your Councilmember I will make sure your concerns are heard and needs are met.
I am a collaborative leader who listens to citizens and brings people together to celebrate the successes and tackle the problems our city faces. I love this City and am passionate, not only about the "issue," but about you, the CITIZENS who live here. I'd be honored to have your vote on November 3rd.
Sincerely,
Victoria
